There are fabulous spots for windsurfing and kitesurfing all along the Costa de la Luz. From Sancti Petri all the way down to Tarifa, there are several beaches that provide excellent conditions whether it is the Poniente (westerly) or the Levante (easterly) that is blowing.

Equipment can be rented just a short walk along the beach from Roche (at the hotels at Novo Sancti Petri), but if you are prepared to drive 35 minutes you can hone your skills at Tarifa, a mecca for windsurfers and kitesurfers from all over the world. The beauty of Tarifa is that there is nearly always wind blowing from one direction or the other through The Strait: a Poniente would normally freshen up to force 5 in the afternoon while the Levante is considerably stronger (force 7-8 is common and winds of 100km/hr are not unheard of!) There is also a wide choice of schools with the latest equipment.

Dos Xtremos recommends... Spin Out (see link below), a school set up back in 1988 and situated at Valdevaqueros, at the northern end of the massive beach that runs all the way from Tarifa town. Spin Out claims to be Tarifa’s largest school (140 boards and 280 sails!) and their excellent equipment is renewed each season. The Spin Out website provides detailed information on prices, and boards can be pre-booked on-line.
