The story of As Lobeiras starts with an adventurous English lady buying a wrecked old farmhouse in the middle of nowhere. And you guessed it......it ends with a beautiful rural retreat in undiscovered Spain! And As Lobeiras truly is a remarkable achievement, the owners having managed to restore the main house (for their own use) and the barn (which is rented out) around a communal courtyard, yet with each property retaining its individual intimacy and special flavour. The barn has a separate entrance and also its own private terrace and section of garden, as well as the shareD use of the courtyard. 

The barn has two floors: the ground floor contains a very large open-plan living space, which includes the kitchen, dining area, and sitting room. And this opens on to the private terrace on one side, and the courtyard on the other. The decor is fresh and modern, and there is masses of light. The kitchen is fully equipped, and has everything you will need for cooking up the local produce (the seafood and vegetables in Galicia are second to none, and you could be forgiven for thinking it was a pretty healthy place if it wasn't for the local orujo!) This floor also contains one twin bedroom with en suite bathroom and also a bedroom with bunk beds. The first floor contains two more double bedrooms with their en suite bedrooms.

It is a 10-kilometre drive to Miño with its wonderful beach, plenty of restaurants and bars, supermarket, Sunday market, and good shops. There are also a  few good simple restaurants nearer to the house. As for beaches, there are dozens along this coast, so you take your pick (big surf beaches, protected coves, or rivers) and you can literally have one to yourself even in the summer. It is 15km to the old fishing town of Puentedeume, where there is an excellent market. There are good walks all around the house, and it is 10 minutes to the Fragas de Eume, national park and the oldest Atlantic forest in Europe, with magical tenth-century monasteries (Caaveiro and Monfero). The River Eume has good trout fishing and was re-stocked 7-8 years ago.  It is regarded as the most beautiful river in Galicia  (and Galicia is the land of 1,000 rivers!) If you want something a little more energetic, hire a bike (the biking in the Eume gorge is simply stunning!) There is good kayaking and horse trekking too; and there are several golf courses, including 18 holes at Miño. And if it is surf you are after, this is your coast, and the owner can put you in touch with a choice of schools, including the one at the World Cup beach, Pantín. There is also a very good sailing school on the estuary at Sada. It is a 20-minute drive to La Coruña, with its great fish restaurants, market, clothes shops, and aquarium; and it is not much further to Santiago de Compostela, which is obviously an absolute MUST!
