Mar de Pinos
Neither our photos nor our words are likely to do justice to Mar de Pinos. But if we tell you there is no need to travel to the other side of the world to find what you may consider the most magical spot you have ever seen, we will probably be summing up this place pretty well! The highlights here are the seclusion, total peace and quiet (if you exclude owls, nightingales, and the waves way below), panoramic views of the entrance to the Mediterranean, the hidden pathway to the (often empty) beach, beautiful rock formations (even in your garden), and simple yet stylish furnishing that includes an eclectic array of items from the owner’s travels.
It has taken the owner 24 years to weave this little piece of magic into what is probably the wildest section of the Costa de la Luz. And wild it is, with your nearest neighbour over 1km away! Mar de Pinos is made up of three units: the main house (La Casa Principal), which sleeps 6-8; a second house (La Casa de Enmedio), with capacity of 4-6; and La Casita, which sleeps 2-4. La Casa Principal can be rented on its own or with La Casa de Enmedio and/or with La Casita. The maximum group size for the whole property is limited to 14. Each unit is actually self-contained, although groups will normally have their meals together on one of the gorgeous terraces at the two bigger houses. The infinity pool appears to hang over the sea of pines, and the twinkling lights of Tangier reflect in the water while you enjoy a night-cap. An oriental-inspired garden, complete with lilly pool, snakes its way up through the rocks (in one part literally), culminating in a secret corner. It’s an overused term, but this really is a unique spot; and one that you will certainly remember, and hopefully want to come back to!
It is a 5-minute drive down to Bolonia, with its local shops for essentials, its famous beach and dune, and the spectacular Roman ruins of Baelo Claudio. Here you will find a few bars and restaurants open all year and several more in season. A 20-minute drive gets you to Tarifa and everything on offer there (shops, bars, restaurants, and virtually every kind of water sport you can imagine). It is a 2-hour drive to Malaga, 2-hours 20 minutes to Seville, and 45 minutes to the hilltop village of Vejer-de-la-Frontera. There is a choice of excellent golf courses within 45 minutes. And Tangier is an hour away on the fast ferry from Tarifa. When you book with us we provide you with detailed information on all our recommendations, details on local amenities, and our up-to-date guide to the best of everything in the area!
