We spent one week at this unique property with our 1 and 3 year old children at the peak of the spring 2014, when the fields were bursting with colour and scents. We were not expecting this area to be as densely and beautifully vegetated – but that proved to be out of ignorance, of course. The province of Cádiz has definitely much more to offer than its coast, by all means a huge asset in itself, just a few minute drive from the property – and you can choose which beach along the Costa de la Luz you want to go to each day, if that’s your thing. The neatly built minimalist architecture of La Valdesa contrasts sharply compared with the surrounding wilderness. One could tell that the owners must have spent many long nights with their architects designing the house and every single detail in and surrounding it. All of the house, the garden and the pool are exquisitely maintained by Enrique, the neighbouring housekeeper, who would show up daily at the house to indulge us with whatever the orchard at the property had produced that day, including lettuces, onions, artichokes, potatoes… The lunar lemon tree in the garden is spectacular, as so are the huge lemons that grow on it. The location coupled with the far reaching views from La Valdesa provide a sense of genuine remoteness whilst, in actual fact, the property is just a short drive away from the main road (mind the bumpy track over the last couple of kms. if you are driving your own car, although we felt that this actually added even more fun and authenticity to the whole experience). This is an excellent platform from which to explore the whole area, which has A LOT to offer. Finally, our gratitude and recognition go to Andrew and María, the agents, for their carefully selected portfolio of special rental properties, their grasp of detail and round the clock availability on the ground. What you see on their comprehensive and nicely laid out web page is a true reflection of ‘at least’ what you get, and they ensure that you enjoy a trouble-free holiday. We will certainly be back for more!
